Welcome to the Baltimore Food Rag! My name is Elizabeth Laseter and I’ve just graduated from Johns Hopkins University. I love food and I love to write. Since high school, I always knew I wanted to write, but it wasn’t until my internship at the Charleston, South Carolina newspaper, The Post and Courier, that I became interested in journalism. My sophomore year, I served as restaurant reviewer for the Hopkins student newspaper, writing my own column, “The Food Fan-Addict.” I further developed my “foodie palette” when I spent the fall of my junior year in Paris, exploring various cuisines.
The summer after my junior year, I interned at Baltimore magazine. There, I had the opportunity to work with food editor Suzanne Loudermilk on her blog, “In Good Taste.” In the fall, I will attend culinary school at l’Academie de Cuisine to further expand my knowledge of food and cuisine. This past summer, I spent three months working as a hostess at Miss Shirley’s Cafe in Baltimore, introducing me to the restaurant world. I can’t wait to dive into the culinary world soon!
In addition, I am interested in current issues surrounding food. Through classes I have taken at Johns Hopkins, I have learned about relevant issues such as obesity, the organic movement, malnutrition or farm subsidies.
While at Hopkins, I was a member of the varsity Cross Country and Track team. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and trying new restaurants, and am a big fan of Adam Richman’s TV series, “Man Versus Food.”
